No, I’m not talking about online strip poker. “Elementeo” made a big splash at the Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs Bazaar event a few days ago. The game is comparable to Yu-gi-oh or Pokemon in its mechanics but is highly educational. Instead of controlling monsters, players use chemical elements, compounds and catalysts to reduce their opponents IQ points. The reactions that result from certain combinations are realistic. For example playing oxygen against iron will create rust. Each card has a number of “stats” but rather than arbitrary attack and defense points, most of the cards’ relevant information can be found on the periodic table of elements. Thus, kids learn as they play, but in a way that is genuinely engaging. From the website, the game looks like it could easily be as much fun as many non-educational games in its genre.

What’s the most amazing thing of all? The game was developed by young entrepreneur Anshul Sama, who is only thirteen! His company has four people in it, all in Junior High except their vice-president of sales who is in Elementary School. You can hear Ashul Sama explain more about his creation here. Elementeo has already sold 450 copies in pre-orders and is predicted to become a major hit in the near future. Heck, if I had to take any more chemistry classes, I would consider ordering a copy for me and my roommate just for kicks.
