Iran-contra-what?

June 21st, 2007 · 1 Comment

I think the entire country has collectively decided to forget all about the Iran-Contra Affair.  Hearing the Republican candidates talk about Ronald Reagan, you’d think they were talking about the second coming of Christ.  The guy went behind Congress’s back to sell weapons to Iran so that he cound illegally fund a right-wing insurgency group.  Let me rephrase that using the modern political jargon: he sold weapons to the most unpredictable member of the Axis of Evil so he could give money to terrorists.  And this is the Republican they want to replicate?  Couldn’t they cite Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, or Thomas Jefferson like a normal person?  At least those Presidents’ imperfections are far enough back in time that we can politely ignore them or dismiss them as a product of their era.  Anyway, that’s been bothering me ever since the first Republican debate so I had to get it off my chest.  Thanks for listening.

Pardon the thick Ironic Tone that is intended in the following. Think Stephen Colbert.
“What? Are you not aware that everything that the ‘Great Communicator’ did was flawless? Hmm. I suppose you don’t think it was a good “idea to trade arms for hostages either?

Next I guess you will give credit to the last leaders of the soviet union, who actually were the ones who ‘tore down that wall’. “
